Volunteer Opportunities of Chester County

There is a place in our area for all who wish to give their time and talent. The following organizations need and welcome volunteers.

Adult Literacy Program

Located at the Bayard Taylor Library, this program provides one on one tutoring for adults who are 18 years or older and need assistance with basic skills in English, Reading and Math as well as English instruction for the foreign born.

A.I DuPont Hospital for Children

A variety of volunteer opportunities exist.

American Cancer Society of Chester County

Volunteers are needed to transport cancer patients and work on educational programs and fund raising. Located at 1615 West Chester Pike, Suite 102, West Chester.

American Red Cross

Volunteers are needed to work as drivers, office workers, bloodmobile aides, safety course instructors and disaster volunteers.

The ARC of Chester County

Volunteers are needed for recreational programs with adults and children during the evenings and weekends. Help is also needed weekdays to assist with mailings and additional duties.

First Step Early Intervention

A program of ARC. Assist with one on one swimming activities at West Chester of Kennett YMCA. All work is with preschoolers. There is also a need for professional volunteers in the area of finance, personnel, special event, fund raisers. etc.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters

Brandywine Battlefield Park

Volunteers needed with earnest desire to communicate American history to young people and adults. Volunteers greet visitors, help with school field trips and act as guides at events.

Brandywine River Museum

Volunteer as a host, hostess, tour guide, office worker, critter maker or garden worker for a minimum of 2 1/2 hours per week.

Camp Dreamcatcher

A one week residential camp for children 5-13, infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS. The camp provides a safe and therapeutic environment.

Canine Partners for Life

Helps increase independence and quality of life of those with physical disabilities through full-service companion, seizure-alert, or residential dogs.

Chadds Ford Historical Society

Volunteers needed at annual Chadds Ford Days in September and to act as a guide at historical house museum May- September. Other opportunities to assist, such as school tours, throughout the year.

Chester County Hospital

The opportunities at the hospital range from very active positions to less physically demanding ones, in clinical or non-clinical settings, in a caring, friendly, fun and professional environment.

Chester County SPCA

Help is needed for both direct and indirect care of the animals. Get involved in pet therapy, fundraising, humane education, office work, or you can elect to provide foster home care or work in the shelter. If you have a special skill and love animals, call you will be put to good use.

Crime Victims Center of Chester County

Need volunteers to provide hotline coverage (one for victims of rape and sexual assault and one for victims of violent crime) evenings, nights and weekends. Training provided.

Delaware Museum of Natural History

Volunteer opportunities exist working with visitors in the Discovery Room and on the Science Cart, in the museum store and information desk, and for special events. Training is provided to those volunteers interested in curational work and interactive learning laboratories.

Domestic Violence Center of Chester County

The Encore Shop

Kennett Area Community Service

Provides temporary services for families in the Kennett, Unionville, and Chadds Ford school areas who need food (Food Cupboard), clothing, lodging, and heat or rent assistance. (Mon, Wed, Fri, 12-3pm)

Kennett Area Senior Center

A community focal point for services and activities for all individuals age 50 and over. Always in need of volunteers.
